New Jersey Symphony: Season Finale: Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich Xian Zhang conductor Conrad Tao piano New Jersey Symphony – Sergei Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2 – Dmitri Shostakovich Symphony No. 5 Russian fireworks to close our season: Shostakovich’s blazing triumph of a symphony written after a frightening threat to his life; and Rachmaninoff’s own triumph of the soul, his Piano Concerto No. 2, created as he recovered from a shattering setback. A beloved guest artist, pianist Conrad Tao, returns for Rachmaninoff’s epic masterwork.
