To mark the 15th Anniversary of Omotesenke Domonkai, Eastern Region, USA, we invite you to a unique experience at Andaz 5th Avenue, by Hyatt. This event offers a rare opportunity to participate in two authentic Japanese tea ceremony experiences, where you can enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the tea ceremony, meet both local and Japanese tea enthusiasts, and immerse yourself in this traditional art.

Our tea ceremonies feature exquisite teaware, some specially brought from Japan for this occasion, and the highest-quality matcha tea powders not available in the US. As you savor the matcha prepared in the traditional manner, you will also enjoy delicious Japanese sweets and hear fascinating stories behind the teaware used in each ceremony. Whether you choose to join both ceremonies or just one, this event promises a memorable and enriching experience that celebrates the timeless tradition of the Japanese tea ceremony.

For all tickets, please note:

1. To protect the tea ware, please remove all jewelry before attending the tea ceremony, including necklaces, rings, drops, and dangling earrings.

2. Once purchased, tea ceremony tickets are strictly non-refundable.

3. These tickets are made available for public outreach purposes, the mission of our organization. Members of Omotesenke Domonkai are not eligible to purchase them.

4. Guest chairs are available for all tea ceremonies.

President Session

This tea ceremony features exquisite, traditional utensils, meticulously crafted by artisans exclusively dedicated to Omotesenke. These tools help bring the rich history of Omotesenke tea culture to life, connecting a 450-year legacy that began with Sen no Rikyū to the present day. Branch Member’s Session

A modern twist on tradition, this tea ceremony showcases utensils inspired by the Manhattan skyline and the bold Art Deco style of 1920s America. Enjoy the harmonious blend of New York’s vibrant energy and the timeless elegance of Japanese tea.

Support the Tradition
Your generous donation will help support the continuation of this cultural tradition, as Omotesenke Domonkai, a nonprofit organization, works to bring authentic Japanese tea ceremonies from Japan to the US. Contributions will be used in alignment with the Eastern Region’s 501(c)(3) mission, supporting public events that promote the appreciation and practice of Japanese tea ceremony. Donations also help enhance local tea ceremony experiences and introduce more people to this beautiful art. Furthermore, your contribution may be tax-deductible. We deeply appreciate your support!

Allergy information:

  • Bowls of tea: Matcha tea powder.
  • Sweets served at President Session:Sugar, agar, white bean, red azuki bean, glucose syrup, food colouring, sweet rice powder.
  • Sweets served at Branch member’s Session: Sugar, agar, glucose syrup and food color.
  • The above sweets are made in facilities that are not strictly allergy-safe.

Dress code:

  • Please take off jewelry and watches. Those can often damage valuable utensils.
  • Most Omotesenke members will wear kimono, but Western-style attire (business casual) is also acceptable.
  • No sleeveless shirts, short mini skirts and jeans
  • For President Session, please bring a clean pair of white socks. (We will have some extras on hand)

  • We will take pictures of the tea ceremony during the event. Please note that the photos taken may be used for SNS at a later date.
